The design of this *Theory of Garden Evolution* series takes “the growth of plants and the evolution of garden landscapes” as its central creative thread. Drawing on poetic imagery—such as rainwater falling into a pond and seeds sprouting—it likens the millennia-long development of classical gardens to the complete growth cycle of a plant, creating an open-ended work that combines poetry with critical thinking; The overall color scheme draws primarily from the layered shades of green found in the vegetation of Jiangnan gardens, using gradations of light and dark green to distinguish the narrative stages of the book. It integrates vertically arranged text from ancient texts, ink-wash landscape paintings featuring lake rocks, simplified line drawings of swallows in pavilions, and side-by-side comparisons of ancient paintings and modern garden scenes to construct a visual system. The layout draws inspiration from the spatial logic of traditional Chinese garden design—the interplay of solid and void, negative space, and the segmentation created by winding corridors—paired with a hardcover sewn binding, pages that lay completely flat, accordion-style long fold-outs, and theme-based accompanying cards. This transforms the experience of shifting perspectives while strolling through a garden into an immersive reading experience, translating Eastern landscape aesthetics through the language of modern graphic design. The entire visual and design scheme serves the core concept of “the garden’s ceaseless vitality and continuous evolution,” guiding readers to look back on the garden’s past and contemplate its boundless future possibilities as they turn the pages.
