Ashima is a local traditional folk literature of Shilin Yi Autonomous County in Yunnan Province, and it is one of the national intangible cultural heritages.

Ashima uses oral poetic language to tell or sing the story of Ashima. The story of Ashima's unyielding struggle against powerful forces reveals the human ideal that light will eventually replace darkness, goodness and beauty will eventually replace ugliness and evil, and freedom will eventually replace oppression and confinement. It reflects the national character and spirit of the Yi ethnic group of the Sani branch, which is "unable to bend but must break".

" Ashima " is adapted from the same-named folk narrative poem of the Yi ethnic group of the Sani people. It tells the story of the beautiful girl Ashima and the brave young man Ahi, who fearlessly pursue love against money, power and oppression.
