The "Spectrum Body" series of clothing is based on the Big Five Personality Theory in psychology. It designs and translates the simplified cognitive limitations of labeling tools such as MBTI to address the complexity of human nature that is "either black or white". The research systematically correlates the five dimensions of personality (openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, neuroticism) with the five elements of clothing (shape, structure, color, pattern, fabric), and through the gradual change of proportions of five pairs of opposing images, it constructs a "wearable personality map" with 5 creative women's dresses, aiming to advocate a continuous and inclusive "spectrum-like" perspective to understand the complexity of individuals.
Design concept: "Spectrum" is a color band formed by the continuous arrangement of dispersed colored light. Its essential characteristics are "continuity" and "transition". This design takes it as a metaphor for personality: tools like MBTI divide human nature into 16 discrete labels, while the Big Five Personality Theory has each dimension distributed continuously from low to high - just like there are countless intermediate colors between blue and green on the spectrum. The design of shape, structure, color, pattern, and fabric all follows the proportional gradual change of the spectrum, rather than binary opposition.
Translation method: The shape is represented by the restrained and "door-like" expansion and openness of the "bed", and the expansive and "door-like" openness and closure of the "door". Through continuous parameter changes in shoulder width, sleeve type, and hem volume, it achieves the transition from cocoon shape to T-shape. The structure is represented by the precise and orderly arrangement of storage art and the casual stacking of installation art as two extremes. By using contrast techniques such as symmetrical division, box support, edge deconstruction, and irregular filling. The color is based on black, white, and gray, drawing on the restrained tones of neoclassicism and the flamboyant colors of surrealism (volcanic red, electric purple), and mapping emotional stability and fluctuation through the proportion change of the embellishment area. The pattern combines rational patterns such as Greek interlace with surreal elements such as shells and gears through digital collage, achieving a free switch between "order" and "disruption" with a modular detachable structure. The fabric expresses interpersonal boundaries and integration through hard and stiff protein leather and soft and drooping acetate.
Core value: This series uses clothing as a medium to respond to the purpose of the Asian Young Talent Art and Design Award, which is "discover new talent and promote cross-border integration". Through the interdisciplinary integration of psychology and clothing design, the works not only focus on innovative expression, but also emphasize cultural context and social value, presenting the complexity and contradiction of personality traits, and reflecting the deep thinking and experimental spirit of the new generation of designers on human issues.
