On November 18, 2024, at 10:00 AM, the International Poster Exhibition of Asian Urban Culture and the Exhibition of Outstanding Works Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and Malaysia (Dalian Station) grandly opened at Dalian University of Technology. This exhibition was guided by China Good Creativity & the National Mathematical Art and Design Competition, organized by the Asia Design Week Organizing Committee, co-organized by the Malaysian Graphic Design Association, and hosted by the Publicity Department of the Party Committee of Dalian University of Technology, the School of Architecture and Art of Dalian University of Technology, the School of Creative Arts and Design of UCSI University, and the Malaysia-China Belt and Road Research Institute.

Zhang Geng, head of the Visual Communication Department at the School of Architecture and Art, Dalian University of Technology, presided over the meeting.

Guests included Ren Wendong, Vice President of Dalian Polytechnic University; Cao Tianhui, Secretary of the Direct Branch and Dean of the School of Humanities (Dalian) at Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts; Yu Miao, Dean of the School of Film and Television Arts at Liaoning Normal University; Li Yi, Dean of the School of Drama, Film and Media at Dalian Academy of Arts; Wu Wenying, Dean of the School of Humanities at Dalian University of Technology; Li Chaozhan, initiator of the "Durian Youth" initiative; Fan Shibin, Vice Dean of the Applied Technology Vocational College at Dalian University of Science and Technology; Zou Baijing, Secretary-General of the Dalian Graphic Design Association and Associate Professor at Dalian University of Technology; Shi Lixin, Director of Art and Technology at the School of Media and Animation at Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts; Miao Ping, Director of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center of the School of Humanities (Dalian) at Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts; and other related guests and media.
Cai Jun, Dean of the School of Architecture and Art at Dalian University of Technology, said: "Welcome to all our sister universities and friends from all walks of life. We hope that this event by our Visual Communication Design major will enhance exchanges between universities and build a bridge between professional teaching and social services in the future."

At the opening ceremony, Ren Wendong, Vice President of Dalian Polytechnic University, delivered a speech, stating that "all the teachers and exhibition organizers have done a great deal of preliminary work for this event. This is not only an exhibition, but also an important platform for learning and exchange between schools. Currently, disciplines are developing rapidly, and there is an increasing emphasis on interdisciplinary integration. Graphic design, as one of the earliest and most interdisciplinary disciplines in the design field, will undoubtedly usher in a brighter future. I hope that all schools and disciplines can break down boundaries, strengthen cooperation, and jointly look forward to a bright future for design disciplines under the support of artificial intelligence."

According to Dr. Miao Ping, chief curator and director of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center of the School of Humanities, Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts ( Dalian), 2024 marks the 50th  anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia  . The exhibition aims to consolidate the friendship between the two countries and promote cultural and economic exchanges. Through the international city poster exhibition, the exhibition  will feature works created on the theme of the 50th  anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, using diverse posters and digital communication to showcase the culture and customs of cities in both countries, seeking a fusion of culture and design.

 

Dr. Miao Ping, chief curator and director of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center of the School of Humanities, Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts ( Dalian) , introduced the exhibition.

At the opening ceremony, Zhang Geng, the chief curator of the exhibition and head of the Visual Communication Department at the School of Architecture and Art of Dalian University of Technology, emphasized: " This poster exhibition cleverly connects urban cultural exchanges from different cultural backgrounds through rich and colorful visual language, allowing viewers to deeply experience the charm of the city and inspire their inner artistic inspiration through the interplay of color and line. We hope to promote mutual understanding and communication through the unique language of visual design, and together embrace a more colorful world. "
In just over a month, the competition received 1,876 submissions from hundreds of outstanding designers, teachers, students, and members of the public in China and Malaysia . After rigorous evaluation by 14 top designers and professors from both countries, including preliminary and final reviews, 200 works were selected for inclusion in the competition. Among them, 100 works received the Excellence Award (the highest award) in the theme category commemorating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia , and were selected for an offline exhibition.

Teachers and students visit the exhibition site

The exhibition at Dalian University of Technology will run from November 18th to 21st 2024 followed  by a visit to UCSI University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from November 26th to 30th After the exhibition concludes, it will tour Beijing, Shijiazhuang, Tangshan, Xi'an, and other cities, allowing more viewers to appreciate these outstanding design works.
The successful hosting of this exhibition not only showcased the profound friendship between China and Malaysia in the field of culture and art, but also built an important platform for the inheritance and development of culture in various Asian cities. Through the unique perspective of design art, it demonstrated the shared aspirations of the people of both countries for a better future.
